I know that Gods mercy and grace is displayed to His glory by my not getting what I deserve as much if not more than through any type of answered prayer to other self needs in my life. Thank God for His mercy and grace on a sinner like me.

Perhaps I was thinking that with spontaneous prayer there is no alternative motive from a self love desire as it is purely addressing a need at the Holy Spirits prompting - we havent had time to think how the answered prayer may effect us..

Often I think sometimes when we pray deliberate prayers for needs we do it out of a self love or expectation mind set realized or unrealized that can stop a prayer from being answered the way we were hoping. Something along the lines as such: the Bible tells us to pray expecting to receive so Im going to pray because I want it to happen. Key words there being I want it to happen. Somewhere along the line we have to die to ourselves and our will has to give way to the will of the Father. I may be wrong, but I think sometimes prayers are not or delayed in being answered because we pray out of a self love. The Fathers love knows what is best for His children any parent will agree that children ask for things all the time, but not all things are given because it is not in their best interest but that does not negate the love of the Father.

Other times I think sometimes people pray because it is expected that they do so so they pray but they dont really believe that the prayer will be answered. Which in some ways plays into my third question (above) why people stop praying if they dont see the results they were looking for. Scripture tells us to be persistent; scripture tells us to have faith to believe, to ask yet some people will stop praying if God doesnt answer in their time frame. Maybe people dont see results because they are praying with the wrong motives, maybe the person needs to keep praying, keep believing keep seeking God for years if necessary so that a work can be done within their heart so that the will aligns with that of the Father. Or again maybe because we are so limited in our ability to understand the ramifications if the prayer is answered thus again emphasizing Gods all knowing sovereignty.

Below we have a model format of how we should pray in private. Many people have analyzed and reanalyzed this the Lords prayer to the point where they read so much into it that in some ways they lose its simplicity. It a prayer in the manner of an innocent childs faith not the complicated collage theological graduate. (< pet peeve, because I really dislike when people take the great simplistic love of the Father and want to complicate it to fit their theological paradigm methods. I know my saying that wont sit well with some of my colleagues. I just prefer a simplistic faith, not immature just a simplistic faith.)

Matthew 6:5-13
5"When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
6"But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
7"And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.
