Sorry if I haven't posted recently. My wife and I need your prayers.
Tuesday was her first appointment at her high-risk ob/gyn clinic. Since it was the first visit, they sent us to the dietician, who talked to us about her diabetic diet. Then we saw the main doctor, who told us that since Tammy is diabetic and has high blood sugar levels at an important point in her pregnancy, they recommended that she be checked in to the hospital so they could run a battery of tests on her.
After that we saw the ultrasound person who showed us what our beautiful 7 week old child looked like. (we couldn't see much except for a heartbeat, which made us both cry.)
Well, later Tuesday night Tammy was admitted in the hospital so they could do some tests to make sure her kidneys and heart could withstand the pregnancy.
Tammy spent the night, and Wendesday morning I went to work. I tried calling Tammy around 10:00am, but a doctor answered her hospital room phone, and told me tammy couldn't talk because she had several doctors in the room with her. (This set off alarms in my head.)
A minute or so later, Tammy called me crying and all upset. She said that the doctor told her that because she'd had complications at her last pregnancy, and because of her age (she is 37), that she will probably suffer major vision loss or be completely blind by the time the pregnancy was over. Therefore they recommended to her that she abort our child.
My wife, in tears, told the doctors in no uncertain terms that we are Christians, and that was not even an option.
I rushed to the hospital where we cried, read Scripture, and prayed. My wife said she would rather go through the rest of her life blind than kill the life inside her that the Lord has blessed her with. I agree.
God is sovereign. He is in control. He is righteous. He is merciful, and He is just.
We have stood on Scripture and have run to the High Fortress of the Lord God. We are trusting in Him to deliver us through this trial, no matter what happens.
Please be in prayer for us.
Also, I should say that there was another doctor and several interns in the room when the first doctor told Tammy the news. Later that day the 2nd doctor came to my wife and told her that he thought we made the right decision to go forward with the pregnancy, and his religious convictions told him that he would have made the same decision we did. He also told us that many of the interns were encouraged to hear that we were standing by the side of the Lord.
So even in tribulation the Lord is lifted up. Praise His Holy Name!
We ask that you pray not just for the us and our yet-to-be-born child, but also pray for the nurses and doctors at the clinic and hospital, that they would learn to trust in the Lord themselves.
Thanks for your prayers. We covet them.
Rob and Tammy.
